“So, what’s it like living with a woman?” Miller asked as he handed Parker a beer. They were sitting in Jackson’s living room, eagerly waiting for their pizza delivery.

“Two, he’s living with two women. Don’t forget Abby,” Croix said.

“Actually, three, if you count Charlie,” Eric added.

“Math geniuses, all of you,” Jackson said.

“Well, since Abby’s seventeen and Charlie’s his daughter, that leaves Rica. So, back to my original and correct question, what’s it like living with a woman?” the lawyer asked.

“You should know. You’re living with one, too,” Parker pointed out before taking a sip of his beer. He didn’t know where Miller was going with this line of questioning, but until he did, he wouldn’t say anything that may incriminate him later.

“Yes, but my situation’s different. I’ll be putting a ring on her finger.”

“And you’re getting regular sex,” Eric said.

“Not just at home either,” Croix complained. “With both of them at Fortress, I’ve started to carry disinfectant wipes around the office with me. Why, just last week, I walked into the kitchen and—” Croix stopped, closed his eyes, and shivered. “I just wanted a cup of coffee, man. It took days before I could look Wren in the eyes again.” Croix looked embarrassed, but Miller looked pleased with himself and his situation.

Parker was happy for him. Miller and Wren had kept their relationship a secret, so Parker didn’t know many details about their courtship, but they had all been there when Wren had broken it off. It had devastated Miller.

“So, spill,” Eric said to Parker.

“There’s not much to tell, sorry. It was bumpy at first, everyone getting used to each other and dealing with Charlie, but we’re in a good routine. It’s not easy, though, and most days are crazy. Between working for Handi Andi during the day and now at the Galley several nights a week, I’d be lost without Rica and Abby. They’ve gone above and beyond what we’d agreed to, especially Rica.”

“Well, I hope you’ve been saying thank you,” Croix said.

“Why?” Parker sat forward. “Has she said anything?”

“Nah, not to me, and not to Wren, either, I don’t think. I’m closest to the receptionist’s desk, so I hear more than I want,” Croix explained.

“Nothing to me, either,” Miller said.

“Good. That’s good.” Parker leaned back in his chair and looked at the ceiling. “It’s hard, though. Don’t get me wrong. I love Charlie and I don’t blame her for any of this, but I really miss my old life. I miss the travel and the rush of following a lead. Writing and deadlines. A good night’s sleep. My boat. A decent paycheck. So far, I’m making ends meet and saving up to move out, but Andi told me today she’d be cutting my hours starting next week, because of the cold weather slump. It would be easier if I could find an actual job with benefits that didn’t involve an hour commute.”

“Have you had any offers?” Jackson asked.

“Yes, but with the commute, I’d hardly see Charlie during the week.
